초록: Nuclear astrophysics is the study of nuclear structure and reactions to explain both the formation of all naturally occurring elements in the universe and the evolution of the stars. Nuclear reactions in explosive stars such as novae, X-ray bursts, and supernovae are believed to be responsible for producing many of the elements that make up our world. Exotic nuclei not normally found on earth can play an important role in these events due to the extreme conditions that occur in the explosion. A frontier area of research involves utilizing beams of radioactive nuclei to improve our understanding of these explosions and the implications on cosmic element production. During this colloquium, we will discuss recent experiments carried out by our group to study nuclear reactions with radioactive ion beams at the Holifield Radioactive Ion Beam Facility in the Oak Ridge National Laboratory.
