아래와 같이 세미나를 개최하오니 많이 참석해 주시기 바랍니다. 아 래 제목: Organic-based Magnet and Organic-based spintronics : New science and Technologies 연사: 유 정 우 박사 (The Ohio State University) 일시: 2010년 4월 27일(화) 오후 4:00~6:00 장소: 기초과학연구소 세미나실 (31317호실) 초록: Molecule/organic-based magnets are relatively new materials created by chemical synthesis targeting magnetic properties at the macroscopic and/or molecular level [1]. These materials, ranging from solely organic to organic-inorganic hybrid complexes, exhibit scientific richness in both physics and chemistry. The ability to control both the magnetic and structural properties of these materials through organic, organometallic, and coordination metal chemistry allows creating an experimental platform for the various theoretical models. Particularly interesting phenomena in this class of magnets is “magnetic bistability”, which often can be controlled by the optical excitations. Besides those unique magnetic phases and phenomena, the electronic structures of these materials also suggest significant potential for the emerging field of spintronics. In this talks, I will discuss recent development on the applications of organic-based magnetic/nonmagnetic semiconductor for the spintronics. We demonstrated all main ingredients of the spintronic operations, the spin injection/detection/transport/polarizing within/between organic non-magnetic/magnetic semiconductors. The thorough study of the device characteristics unravels the physical mechanisms concerning how the spins are transferred into and through an organic semiconductor [2]. In addition, the room temperature organic-based magnet, V(TCNE: tetracyanoethylene)x was successfully incorporated into the standard magnetic tunnel junction devices [3]. Our results unambiguously demonstrate spin filtering through a V(TCNE)x magnetic semiconductor film, wherein spin polarized carriers tunnel through the hybrid barrier while effectively conserving their spin polarization. The exploiting spin polarization in carbon-based system will certainly give a birth of a new paradigm of molecule-based magnetic electronics.
