제목: Advanced Physiological Optics and Its Ophthalmic Applications

초록: Ocular wavefront sensing technique revolutionized ophthalmic/visual optics particularly with regard to laser refractive surgery, cataract surgery and ophthalmic lens designs. The technique does not only allow us to accurately quantify the optical defects in the eye but also make it possible to correct them to improve vision by using advanced vision correction technology including ophthalmic surgery (e.g. LASIK), adaptive optics, and customized ophthalmic lenses. Despite vision improvement with the correction, our previous finding indicates that optical quality of the eye gradually alters human neural processing via long-term adaptation to image blur formed on the retina. Understanding the limits of human vision by studying the relative contribution of optical and neural factors to neural processing can also improve our ability to overcome presbyopia, age-related loss of accommodation and to control myopia progression. I will also introduce to other translational research endeavors for objective diagnosis and treatment of corneal diseases using advanced in-vivo optical imaging. They include optical coherence tomography and microscopy, MRI, multimodal human tear imaging for dry eye research and finite element modeling for biomechanical properties of human cornea.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
