제목:  APOLLO Program: Understanding Neutron-Rich Nuclei for r-Process Nucleosynthesis

초록:  To understand the heavy elements production, r-process nucleosynthesis has been studied for several decades. Despite the vast improvement in observations, modeling, and nuclear physics that has been made, the r-process study still contains a large uncertainty due to the limited experimental access to unstable nuclei. APOLLO (Array for Photon Observing LANL Output), a half-sphere scintillator array detecting gamma rays, is designed to study the properties of neutron-rich nuclei. APOLLO can be coupled to the highly efficient HELIOS (HELIcalOrbit Spectrometer) at Argonne National Laboratory (ANL), to measure gamma rays in conjunction to transfer reactions. The study using APOLLO on the currently available neutron-rich nuclei at ANL will help predicting the level density and the gamma-strength function, improving the reaction rates for very neutron-rich nuclei, and being ready for upcoming FRIB (Facility for Rare Isotope Beams). The current status of this project and future outlook will be discussed.
