제목: Introduction to Terahertz and Infrared Spectroscopy

초록: Recent advances in ultrafast laser technology have opened a way to implement terahertz time-domain spectroscopy (THz-TDS) that smoothly joins the terahertz region of the electromagnetic spectrum and the infrared region where Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIRS) has already played an instrumental role in understanding the fundamental optical properties of solids. The materials that can be studied with these fascinating tools range from classical systems such as metals, insulators, and semiconductors to novel materials at the forefront of cutting-edge research, such as graphene, topological insulators, superconductors, and metamaterials. In this colloquium, the basic principles of the two spectroscopic methods are introduced and the most interesting applications to old and new materials will be presented.
