초록: A macroscopic property such as electrical conductance can be either turned ‘on’ or ‘off’ simply by applying a bias voltage in semiconductors.  Such material property dependence to an independent parameter is paramount for technological viability of a material system.  Here, I will discuss how a mechanical degree of freedom at nanoscales can be applicable.  Particularly, I will discuss applicability of materials with strong spin-orbit interaction and how macroscopic properties can be controllably modulated by the smallest mechanical strains.
