초록: Statistical mechanics is the branch of physics that deals with
macroscopic phenomena emerging from interactions between units. In
mainstream physics the units are typically molecules and the
interactions electromagnetic, but the methods of statistical physics
have much wider applications. In the interface between physics and
electric engineering the units can be substations interacting via
power lines; interface between physics and cell biology the units can
be proteins and the interactions can say whether the genes of proteins
regulates each other; in the interface between physics and
epidemiology the units are individuals and the interactions represent
possibilities of disease transmission; etc. In many systems the
interactions take place in a network that is neither random nor
completely structured. In such systems, complex networks, one can
extract information about the behavior of the system (both its
evolution and the dynamics across the network--like the spread of
disease in social network or signaling in protein networks). The goals
of network physics are both academic--to understand the mechanisms of
the evolution of networked systems, especially the feedback from
dynamic systems on the network to the system's evolution--and
practical--to develop methods for utilizing the information in the
networked systems for problems specific to the various areas (to
develop protocols to vaccinate a population efficiently, identify
drug-targets in biochemical networks, classify and categorize nodes in
reference networks like citation networks or the World Wide Web). I
will discuss this field in general and some of my contributions to it.
