○ Title: Status of multifractional theories


○ Abstract:  

We review recent advances in the general framework of multiscale 

spacetimes arising in quantum gravity, with emphasis on the so-called 

multifractional theories, where spacetime exhibits a multifractal 

structure. It is shown that the spacetime measure and the running of the 

dimension are uniquely determined parametrically and that several 

features of quantum gravities such as discreteness, fuzziness and the 

running of spacetime dimension may have the same physical origin. We 

also list the most updated constraints, in multifractional theories, on 

the spacetime dimension and on the fundamental scale at which effects of 

a fractal geometry become apparent. Moreover, on general grounds a 

discrete scaling symmetry is predicted in the ultraviolet which can 

leave a long--range imprint in cosmological observations.
