Title: Three-body problems and three-body forces in Classic and Quantum Systems
Speaker: Prof. Hideyuki Sakai (RIKEN, 성균관대학교)

Place: Natural Science 1, Room No. 31214
Abstract: The three-body system has been well studied in classical systems, i.e.
in Newtonian mechanics under gravity. It is known that there is
no general solution to Newtonian three-body equations. Indeed
Poincare showed that the three-body system involves a chaotic
behaviour in the three particle motion.
Interestingly in quantum mechanics, the Schrodinger equation
for three particle systems can be solved rigorously.
Thanks to this, the existence of theoretically predicted three-body
force effects was confirmed in the nuclear scattering system.
In this lecture, I first illustrate the three-body problem of
a classic system and that of quantum system and then introduce
recent experimental results which show the three-body force effects.
