Title: Adhesion forces between nanoparticles in gas-phase processes and application

Nanoparticles serve as the building block in an increasing amount of advanced
materials and devices. Therefore, they are used in processes such as fluidization,
coating, or mixing. In order to achieve best performance over these processes it is
crucial to have good control over the adhesion forces between the nanoparticles.
Therefore, we developed an Atomic Force Microscope based method to measure
adhesion forces between single nanoparticles in the size of tens of nanometers.
During my presentation I would like to invite you into the topic of adhesion forces
between nanostructures. I will show based on experimental AFM results, Molecular
Dynamic simulation, and Model calculation, that the use of state-of-the-art continuum
models such as the Hamaker van der Waals model is not sufficient to understand the
strong adhesion effects on the nanoscale. On the process of fluidization of
nanoparticles I will show how these findings can be applied on industrial processes.
