 5. Abstract: In recent years, a broad category of materials termed as “quantum materials” have taken center stage in condensed matter physics. They refer specifically to solids with exotic physical properties that arise from quantum mechanical properties of its constituent electrons. Salient features of quantum mechanics such as entanglement, coherence, and quantum fluctuations directly impact its physical properties to create exotic phenomena at a macroscopic scale. Due to its diversity and depth, a suite of instrumentations, spanning from synthesis, characterization, control, and computation/design, are required for its study. In this talk, I will introduce personal experience on two such mid-scale instrumentations for quantum materials research: high magnetic field and neutron scattering, with few on-going examples.
