○ Abstract:The light can pave the pathways to resolve two important issues facing humans: energy and information. It transfers energy or information quantum at the speed of light, has almost zero crosstalk, and interacts relatively weakly with matter. The weak interaction with matters is, indeed, a double-edged sword because solid-state devices are eventually needed to create, manipulate, and detect the light. Therefore, to better utilize the light, we need the condensed matter strongly coupling to the light, and need to study the light-matter interactions extensively. In this seminar, I will show how we can utilize electron microscopy to study such a special condensed matter and the light-matter interactions. To be specific, I will discuss about the hyperbolic plasmonic polaritons in PdCoO2 and the luminescence properties of high-angle grain boundaries in GaN. Lastly, I will briefly introduce the research direction that I will develop in the next few years.
