- Title : Novel topological electrons floating on the surface of electride materials

- Abstract : Electrides represent a unique class of ionic compounds where electrons are not bound to specific atomic orbitals but are instead localized within the interstitial spaces of the crystal lattice. These electrons, referred to as interstitial anionic electrons (IAEs), act as anions and significantly influence the physical and chemical properties of the materials. The IAEs often form electronic bands that cross the Fermi level, creating a fertile ground for the emergence of non-trivial topological phases. Due to their high degree of spatial delocalization and the specific symmetry of the lattice, these anionic electrons can naturally evolve into robust topological states. In this talk, we present our recent investigations into the topological surface states of electride materials using scanning tunneling microscopy and spectroscopy (STM/STS). By performing high-resolution spatial and spectroscopic measurements, we have successfully visualized the floating electronic states localized on the surface. Our results demonstrate that the unique electronic environment of electrides provides a powerful platform for realizing and manipulating novel topological electrons, offering new insights into the design of electron-based quantum materials
